Strong Community Affiliations
The Foundation’s commitment to its community is deep and enduring. Since the South Boston community rallied to transform the police station into a recovery home, the relationship with the community has grown stronger.
Recognizing that isolation, alienation and idleness increases the risk of substance abuse, Gavin Foundation undertakes innovative, cooperative ventures with community groups, creating opportunities for engagement and belonging. Partnering with other non-profits the Foundation supports youth and young adult social activities, and providing productive, enjoyable experiences.
The Foundation participates in a variety of community organizations:
- South Boston’s Hope and Recovery Committee, a group of organizations and citizens determined to fight substance abuse through organized activities and fundraising;
- South Boston Association of Non-Profits, a local organization aimed at coordinating community service efforts; and
- Action for Boston Community Development, the city-wide anti-poverty agency.
